Cellulite is a problem that affects more than 90% of women. Cellulite is caused by fibrous connective cords that tether the skin to the underlying muscle with fat lying in between. Cellulite is often characterized by a loss of smoothness and a dimpling texture, up until recently there was little that could be done for moderate to severe cellulite. With the FDA-Approval of QWO, a treatment option for those with moderate to severe cellulite is now available at Gold Skin Care Center in Nashville, TN.
What is QWO?
QWO is the first FDA-Approved Injectable Cellulite Treatment that releases deep dimples through dissolving the fibrous bands that cause them, with a simple injection of a safe drug that’s been used for years in other medical applications. QWO is a treatment specifically used for those with moderate to severe cellulite.
How causes cellulite?
According to QWO, there are three main factors that contribute to cellulite. The first factor is that our skin gets thinner as we age; skin aging is often a contributing factor to cellulite looking more severe over the years. The second contributing factor of cellulite is fat, essentially fat cells enlarge and push against the skin. That being said, cellulite may be linked more to genetics than weight, regardless of BMI, women genetically predisposed to cellulite may experience moderate to severe cellulite, even with appropriate lifestyle, diet, and fitness routines. The third and final factor that contributes to cellulite is fibrous bands under the skin thickening and causing tension between the muscle and fat cells, creating the signature dimpling that is usually associated with cellulite.
How does QWO work?
Qwo is a simple office treatment where it is injected into cellulite dimples. Qwo comes in 2 different sizes and is priced accordingly. Qwo requires three treatments sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart to get the desired effect. The enzymes in QWO—called collagenases—are believed to target a structural cause under the skin.
It’s thought that QWO works in 3 ways: releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen.
How long does QWO last?
To date, we have data to support longevity for a few years and will continue to monitor how many years patients can expect to see the substantial improvement.
When can you see results from QWO?
Patients may see an improvement as early as three weeks after their injections. However, the improvement continues, and most patients require more than one treatment cycle of QWO with up to three treatments are spaced 21 days apart. QWO may cause side effects including allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis, and injection site bruising.
