Hair Loss

Hair loss, or alopecia, can have many different causes and requires a detailed history and physical examination to determine the most likely cause. Some hair loss can be linked to genetics (common baldness known as androgenetic alopecia), stress (body stresses such as surgery or pregnancy, known as telogen effluvium), certain medical diseases (including thyroid disorders and lupus), as well as associated skin diseases such as psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis.

Some cases of hair loss may require a laboratory workup and/or a skin biopsy if there is concern of a cause other than genetic hair loss.

What Can Be Done?

There are many treatments for hair loss. Topical corticosteroids and corticosteroid injections into the scalp can help by promoting new hair growth in many. Topical medications, such as Minoxidil, are available for both men and women. An oral medication is available for men with hereditary hair loss, which may slow the progression of the loss and increase one’s hair counts. Several new topical medications that Gold Skin Care Center dispenses contain active ingredients that may be useful for many with hair loss. Dr. Gold and the staff will determine if these are right for you.

Recently, new treatment modalities are emerging which have shown exciting promise in the treatment of hair loss and Gold Skin Care Center, along with the Hair Center, are pleased to announce the formation of the Global Center for Hair Restoration, a new concept for delivering hair loss strategies and treatment results to everyone.

The Global Center for Hair Restoration will determine the best treatment options for you as our dedicated hair replacement specialists. We are happy to introduce the Global Center for Hair Restoration to you.
