Fine Lines and Wrinkles

We all have, or will have them: wrinkles. In their early stages, they are usually more superficial, which we refer to as “fine lines.” Over time, they may become much deeper, sometimes even taking on an appearance similar to scars. You hear them called by many names; “parentheses” around the mouth, “crow’s feet” around the eyes, even “bunny lines” on the nose. Some people embrace them, while others will stop at nothing to erase them entirely. Most of us, however, fall somewhere in between. Procedures we provide include:

  • Clear + Brilliant
  • Emerge

The dermatologists at Gold Skin Care Center understands the many factors that cause each person’s unique wrinkles, as well as the many different solutions that can reduce their appearance and help prevent more in the future. The Root Causes of Wrinkles

What causes these fine lines and wrinkles? The most obvious answer is age. This aging process starts as early as in the mid-20s, when the production of collagen begins to slow and elastin fibers start to weaken. Skin becomes thinner and more transparent, facial fat “disappears,” and after the skin\’s elasticity dramatically declines in the 50s, gravity wreaks havoc on your face, seemingly causing everything to sag.

These facial changes most often manifest themselves in sunken, “tired” eyes, sometimes with heavy lids and dark circles, as well as hollow cheeks and drooping jowls. Another factor contributing to fine lines and wrinkles is movement. People commonly refer to the lines between their eyes and at the corners of their mouths as “frown lines,” while the lines around the eyes are usually referred to as “smile lines.” Over time, normal muscle movements, such as drinking from a straw, or squinting in the sun, and repeated animations (smiling, frowning, furrowing our brows, etc…) cause lines and creases to become permanently etched into our skin.

Finally, health and lifestyle also play a huge role in the rate at which our skin ages. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and can be a direct reflection of your inner health. While it’s unrealistic to think we can stop time or never move our faces again, there are many things we can add to and eliminate from our lifestyles that will preserve the integrity of our skin and prevent the appearance of premature aging. Two of the most damaging skin offenses are smoking and excessive exposure to UV rays. Other factors, such as dehydration, alcohol use, and poor eating/sleeping habits, can also make us appear older than we really are.

The Solution to Your Unique Wrinkles

How can we help you prevent or reverse these signs of premature aging? First, we must perform a comprehensive evaluation. This often includes your current skin care regimen, your lifestyle, your overall health, and what concerns or bothers you the most. We will also thoroughly assess the condition of your skin, as well as discuss what your expectations are versus what we can realistically accomplish.

Once we have determined your needs and expectations, as well as your budget and ideal timeline, we can match you with the option or options best suited to accomplish your goals. Some of the procedures we perform, such as chemical peels and dermal fillers, can offer a near-immediate improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Other procedures, such as Venus Viva and Ulthera, smooth and tighten by stimulating the regeneration of collagen and elastin fibers in the deeper layers of the skin. This process takes time, meaning the results of these treatments may not be apparent for 3 months or longer.
